Main objective of the course unit

 The objective of this course unit is to enhance the ability of students in the application of R software, focusing on the practical applications. Main topics covered include basic data structures, File I/O, data transformation and visualization, simple statistical tests, etc, and some useful packages in R.

Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course unit, students will be able to:

  1. Define the R ecosystem at a basic level (RStudio, CRAN, R Markdown).
  2. Access online resources for R and import new function packages into the R workspace
  3. Import, review, manipulate and summarize datasets in R
  4. Explore datasets to create testable hypotheses and identify appropriate statistical tests
  5. Perform simple data modeling, statistical analyses, create and edit visualizations with R
